Pride of New York Marketplace Farm, Food and Fun Festival

Westchester County Festival to Feature Local Foods, Family Fun – March 17 & 18

More than thirty local farmers and food producers will participate in the first-ever Pride of New York MarketPlace Farm, Food and Fun Fest to be held on March 17 and 18, 2007 at the Westchester County Center in White Plains. The festival, sponsored by Westchester County Parks and the Pride of New York Program, will feature local exhibitors showcasing the very best in locally-grown produce and dairy products, pasture-raised meats, locally produced wine and beer, fresh baked goods and other prepared foods.

"One of the best ways to appreciate the diversity and abundance of New York State food products is to talk with the people who actually produce them," said New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker. "That’s what makes farmers’ markets so successful, and that is why we are excited to help sponsor the first-ever Pride of New York MarketPlace Farm, Food and Fun Fest – to give consumers the opportunity to talk to our farmers and food producers, and learn more about the Pride of New York. This will be a terrific free family event that I encourage everyone in Westchester County to attend."

The Pride of New York MarketPlace Farm, Food and Fun Fest will take place Saturday, March 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, March 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westchester County Center at 198 Central Park Avenue in White Plains. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is $4.00.

Westchester County Executive Andy Spano said, "We are very proud of the extensive variety of fresh produce and other food products that are made or grown right here in New York State. It is gratifying to have this opportunity to offer residents direct access to local bounty in late winter, and in keeping with our "Be Fit Westchester" initiative which encourages residents to get fit and stay fit, this festival will give them the opportunity to choose fresh and healthy foods as well."

The festival’s 32 participants are all members of the Pride of New York Program, the State’s marketing and promotion program that generates interest and demand for New York food and agricultural products. At the event, Pride members will offer samples and food demonstrations of their products and attendees can purchase the products directly from the growers and producers.
