Statement From Commissioner Patrick Hooker
Regarding the Appointment of Dr. Kathryn Boor
as the New Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University
“Today is a terrific day for New York State with the appointment of Dr. Kathryn Boor as the new Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Science at Cornell University.
“As someone who grew up in upstate New York on a dairy farm and was involved in 4-H as a youth, Dr. Boor is personally committed to the vitality of rural communities, farm families and New York’s food and agricultural industries. Dr. Boor is intimately familiar with Cornell, first as a student, and now as both a professor for the past ten years and the Chair of the Food Science Department. She is also a nationally and internationally recognized researcher. Spending a significant amount of her time on outreach, Dr. Boor has strong relationships established with many important constituencies. Perhaps her most impressive credential is her complete understanding and respect for the three pillars of the land grant mission – teaching students, conducting research and bringing practical applications of those findings to the people of New York State and the world.
“For all these reasons, Dr. Kathryn Boor was this administration’s top pick for the position, and Governor Paterson and I are grateful for Provost Kent Fuchs’ five-year appointment of Dr. Boor as the new Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Science at Cornell University. We are confident that her passion and experience will assist the nutrition of all New Yorkers and the food, agriculture and rural communities throughout New York State.”
