Coming Soon to the State Fairgrounds


State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine today announced a number of exciting events coming to the New York State Fairgrounds November 16 through 18.

The Leatherstocking Cluster Fall Dog Show returns to the Fairgrounds in the Exhibit Center, beginning Friday, Nov. 16 through Sunday, Nov. 18. This is an opportunity to see “live” what you often see on TV. Observe the time and work it takes to train an obedience dog for the various performance titles offered. Watch the patience and care owners and professional handlers put into their dogs preparing them to go into the ring with their canine peers and a licensed Judge. Over 120 different breeds and varieties will be represented in conformation judging, as well as obedience and rally classes.  Visitors are welcome to talk to exhibitors any time, but don’t miss a special opportunity to “Meet the Breeds” on Saturday at 1 p.m. Show hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Admission is free on Friday and $5 on Saturday and Sunday for adults. Admission for seniors and children 12 and under is $2.

Experience a unique, three-day holiday shopping experience in the Horticulture Building at the Junior League Holiday Shoppes Friday, Nov. 16 through Sunday, Nov. 18. Enjoy distinct gifts, jewelry, gourmet foods, designer clothing and many one-of-a-kind items offered by over 150 merchants. Your purchases will help support the community projects and training programs of the Junior League of Syracuse, Inc. Tickets are $6 if purchased in advance at local Price Chopper locations or $8 if purchased at the door. Event hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The 33rd annual National Parts Peddler Trade Show returns to the Center of Progress Building from Nov. 16 through Nov. 18. This event offers a wide spectrum of racing vehicles and equipment ranging from Circle Track, Drag Racing, and Road Racing to Karting. Intricate displays, seminars, race cars and accessories of all types will complete the event. One day admission tickets are $15, a two day pass is $25 and a three day pass is $30. Event hours are noon to 9 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The International Building will host the Friends of Ken McDonald Fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 18 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Ken McDonald is a husband, a father of three adult girls and a grandfather.  He is in need of a lung transplant. A 30 year Journeyman with the IBEW Local 43 Electrician’s Union, he is disabled and has been unable to work since July 2006. While Ken has medical insurance, it will not cover other expenses associated with the operation in Cleveland, Ohio, including transportation, lodging for Ken and family members for a minimum of three months, post operative medicines and other medical expenses not covered by insurance. Admission is $20 at the door and includes food, drink and music.

Apart from the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast's most prestigious horse and livestock shows.

The Fairgrounds is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates year round. A year-round schedule of Fairgrounds events is available on the Fair's website.
