The 2013 Empire Appaloosa Association Classic takes place at the Toyota Coliseum beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, at 7 a.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. Sunday.  This is the 31st annual show, sponsored by the Empire Appaloosa Association, with a goal of promoting the Appaloosa horse.  The show is sanctioned by the national organization, the Appaloose Horse Club. Admission is free.

The Pinto Horse Association of New York State sponsors its “Lots of Spots” Pinto show Thursday and Friday, and its Pinto Jubilee show Saturday and Sunday.  Competitions begin at 7:30 a.m. each day at the 4-H Arena.  Admission is free.

In the Empire Theater at the Art & Home Center, it’s the third weekend of performances of The Talent Company’s “Cooking with the Calamari Sisters.”  The musical comedy tells the story of two sisters whose public access TV cooking show is having its final broadcast.  The sisters sing and laugh their way through the show.  The show features the original cast.  Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.  Tickets are $32.50 general admission, $30.50 for seniors and students.  Discounts are available for groups of 15 or more.  Tickets can be purchased online at: http://www.thetalentco.com/boxoffice/calamari.html.

The New York State Fair runs from August 22 – September 2, 2013.  The Fair’s theme is “Sharing the Bounty and Pride of New York.”

In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.

The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s website.  Find The Great New York State Fair on Facebook or follow NYS Fair on Twitter. Also, New Yorkers are invited to send their ideas on the Great New York State Fair at statefairideas@agriculture.ny.gov.
