Get Geared Up for Winter Sports at the Fairgrounds this Weekend

Events Also Include Horse Show, and Gun Show

State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine today announced the following events running from Wednesday, September 11 to Sunday, September 15 at the New York State Fairgrounds:

It may still feel like summer, and the calendar says it’s early autumn, but the Horticulture Building at the Fairgrounds will put some of the best fun of winter on display this weekend.  From Thursday, September 12 through Sunday, September 15, the 3 Million Dollar Annual Ski & Board Sale will make available skis and snowboards from the major retail shops in Central and Western New York, along with displays from the major companies that manufacture skis and snowboards, and information from resorts that cater to skiers and snowboarders.  Admission is free.  The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Syracuse Fall Gun Show at the Center of Progress Building features hundreds of tables from dealers from throughout the United States and Canada, offering firearms that stretch back to before the Revolutionary War.  The show, run by the New York State Arms Collectors Association, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 14 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 15.  Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and is free for children under 12 who are accompanied by an adult.

The 53rd annual New York Regional Championship Morgan Horse Show begins on Wednesday, September 11 and runs to Sunday, September 15 in the Toyota Coliseum.  Admission is free.  In addition to the many riding and driving competitions, the show features a barn sale of items of interest to horse owners and fans on Friday and Saturday, and a fun dog show on Saturday afternoon in which canine contestants are judged on their best tricks, their ability to navigate an obstacle course, or their best costumes.

The New York State Fair runs from August 21 to September 1, 2014. In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.

The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s website.  Find The Great New York State Fair on Facebook at facebook.com/nysfair or follow @NYSFair on Twitter. Also, New Yorkers are invited to send their ideas on the Great New York State Fair to  statefairideas@agriculture.ny.gov.
