Bubble Blast 5k Run Moves to the New York State Fair in 2014

Fair’s First-Ever Running Event, a Fundraiser for ACR Health & Operation Walk, Provides Foamy Fun for Families, Great Start to a Day at the Fair

The Bubble Blast 5K Run will call the Great New York State Fair its new home in 2014, Troy Waffner, Acting State Fair Director, announced today.  The event takes place at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 31.  It will mark the first time in the Fair’s long history that a running event takes place during the Fair.  The run is presented by ACR Health, a not-for-profit, community-based organization serving nine Central and Northern New York counties and providing a wide range of support services.

The Bubble Blast Run is a 5K run with a difference.  It’s a foamy obstacle course, and runners and families that take part will be able to run through The Human Washing Machine and pick up a little time by going down the Sudsy Slip and Slide, among other elements.  “We know families will have a great time getting bubbled up while providing important assistance to people who need it,” said Carrie Portzline-Large, ACR Health’s development director.

“We are pleased to partner with ACR Health and Operation Walk for this exciting and healthy event.  The run is a perfect fit for the Fair and its focus on family entertainment and health.  And we know it will be great fun and the perfect start to any family’s day at the Fair.  I’m going to run the Bubble Blast Run and I encourage everyone to join me,” said Waffner.

Registration is underway for the run at http://www.bubbleblastrun.com or by calling 1-800-475-2430.  More information about the event is also available on the website.  All of the proceeds will be split between ACR Health’s Youth Services Division and Operation Walk, which provides free surgical treatments for disadvantaged people in the United States and abroad who do not have access to medical care.

The course will begin and end at Chevy Court.  Runners will use the pedestrian footbridge to cross safely over State Fair Boulevard to run the main part of the course, around the Fair’s Orange parking lot, before taking the bridge back to the Chevy Court finish line.  There will be a timer at the finish line for those who are interested in tracking their time for running the course, but this will be a fun run event.  Every runner registered for the race receives free admission to the New York State Fair.  Family members not running in the event can purchase advance sale tickets for $6 when tickets go on sale in July or can purchase admission tickets at the main gate for $10 on the morning of the event.

More information about ACR Health can be found at www.ACRHealth.org.  Details about the work done by Operation Walk can be found at http://operationwalksyracuse.org/.

The New York State Fair, operated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August 21 September 1, 2014.  The Fair’s mission, reflected in its 2014 theme, “Summer’s Best in Show,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing top-quality entertainment.

In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.

The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s website.  Find The Great New York State Fair on Facebook, follow @NYSFair on Twitter, and enjoy photos from the Fair at Flickr.com/photos/nysfair.
