The Doobie Brothers Long Train Runs to Chevy Court on Labor Day at the Great New York State Fair

Classic Rock Band Brings Decades of Hits to Fair’s Final Show of 2014

Classic rock band The Doobie Brothers will be the soundtrack for the last big party of summer as the band rolls in to Chevy Court at the Great New York State Fair on Monday, September 1, Troy Waffner, Acting State Fair Director, announced today.

The show will take place at a special time – 6:00 p.m – and will be the only concert on Chevy Court that day.  “We’ve moved the concert time up to give more people a chance to come to the Fair for one more round of food, drink, and fun before the work week starts.  If the Fair marks the end of summer, this is the party to end on.  And we’ve got a couple of special ideas for that day, that we will announce later, that will make the day even more special,” said Waffner.

As one of the most popular California pop/rock bands of the ’70s, The Doobie Brothers evolved from a mellow, post-hippie boogie band to a slick, soul-inflected pop outfit by the end of the decade.  Extolling smart pop hooks and warm, soulful vocals, along the way, the group racked up a string of gold and platinum albums, along with a number of radio hits like ‘Listen to the Music’, ‘Black Water’, ‘What A Fool Believes’, ‘Takin’ It To The Streets’ and ‘China Grove’, lacing their country-rock stylings with an enjoyable dash of funk.

Concerts on Chevy Court are presented by Chevrolet.

  • Chef Anne Burrell, at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 27
  • Herman’s Hermits Starring Peter Noone, at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 25

The New York State Fair, operated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August 21 – September 1, 2014.  The Fair’s mission, reflected in its 2014 theme, “Summer’s Best in Show,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing top-quality entertainment.

In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.

The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s website.  Find The Great New York State Fair on Facebook, follow @NYSFair on Twitter, and enjoy photos from the Fair at Flickr.com/photos/nysfair.
