Farm to School Coordinating Committee
The New York Farm to School Coordinating Committee is a statewide coalition of school food service directors, farmers, health professionals, researchers, educators, government program representatives and others working together to increase the use of local foods in schools, colleges, and other educational institutions. The Department of Agriculture & Markets provides administrative staff and operational resources for the New York Farm to School Coordinating Committee.
Since first coming together in 1998, these partners have surveyed school food service directors about their use of local products; facilitated links between farmers, schools, distributors, and processors; identified challenges to these links; helped develop and support the passage of New York’s Farm to School legislation; and steadfastly promoted Farm to You Fest! (New York Harvest for New York Kids Week).
The committee meets 2-3 times a year to share ideas and help guide the priorities of the NY Farm to School Program.
