Joy Gourmet Foods LLC Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts and Cashews in Gujarati Mix

Joy Gourmet Foods Inc. of Maspeth, NY is recalling its 20 oz. and 28 oz. packages of Gujarati Mix because they contain undeclared peanuts and cashews. People who have allergies to peanuts or cashews run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The recalled Gujarati Mix was distributed in NY, NJ, CT, MA and MD in retail stores.  The product comes in 20 oz. and 28 oz. clear plastic packages and marked with expiration date 06/30/2016.

No illnesses or allergic reactions involving this product have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by NYS Food Laboratory personnel which revealed that the peanuts and cashews containing product was distributed in packages that did not declare their presence. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by temporary breakdown in the company’s packaging process. Production of the product is suspended until the company is certain that the problem is corrected.

Consumers who have purchased the 20 oz. or 28 oz. of Gujarati Mix are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumer with questions may contact the company at 718-821-6050.
