Lion Pavilion LTS Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Sulfites in Greenfood-Gold Continent Mushrooms

Lion Pavilion Ltd., 541 Gardner Ave., Brooklyn, NY, 11222 is recalling Greenfood-Gold Continent Mushrooms (Product of China), because it may contain undeclared sulfites.  People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious of life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The recalled Greenfood-Gold Continent Mushrooms in plastic bags, 8.8 oz. (250g), were sold nationwide.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by food laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in packages of Greenfood-Gold Continent Mushrooms which did not declare sulfites on the label.  The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics.  Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting  10 milligrams or more of sulfites.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
