FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Randall Meat Market Inc., of Bronx, New York is recalling all ready-to-eat deli foods purchased at the deli counter because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
All ready-to-eat deli foods were purchased at the deli counter within the store.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
The recall was the result of inspection samples by Food Inspectors of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, which revealed that the product contained the bacteria.
Deli operations have been suspended until the source of the problem is found.
Consumers who have purchased ready-to-eat deli products at the store’s deli counter are urged to discard it. Consumers with questions may contact Rene Carabello at Exit Supermarket at (718) 792-0068.
