Rhee Bros.,Inc. Issues Allergy Alert On Undeclared Sulfites In ‘Assi’ Brand ‘Boxthorn Tea’.

Rhee Bros.,Inc. of Columbia, MD, is recalling its 4 oz packages of ‘Assi’ brand ‘Boxthorn Tea’ because it may contain undeclared Sulfites. People who have allergies to Sulfites run the risk of serious life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

‘Assi’ brand ‘Boxthorn Tea’ was distributed in retail stores nationwide. The product comes in a 4 oz package with the UPC code 0 8165210185 7.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after sampling by ‘New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets food inspectors’ and subsequent analysis by the ‘New York State Department of Agriculture’ and ‘Markets Food Lab’ revealed the presence of undeclared sulfites. The problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the labeling process. Distribution of the products has been suspended until the company is certain that the label has been corrected.

Consumers who have purchased 4 oz packages of ‘Assi’ brand ‘Boxthorn Tea’ are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.  Consumers with questions may contact the company at 410-381-9000 ext. 1168.
