Improperly Pasteurized Cream

New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker today alerted consumers that Hillcrest Dairy, Plant #36-3108, located at W. Cayuga Street, Moravia, New York, is voluntarily recalling cream due to improper pasteurization.  Proper pasteurization heats cream in order to effectively eliminate all pathogenic bacteria, such as Listeria and Salmonella.

The recalled cream is sold under the name Hillcrest Dairy Heavy Cream.  This product has a container code of SELL BY 12/18/10 and was distributed in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State.

Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Milk Control and Dairy Services Inspectors, and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel, revealed the product was improperly pasteurized.

No illnesses have been reported to date to this Department in connection with this problem.
