At its first meeting, the Council will review the objectives of the Governorís Executive Order #13; review trends of food policy councils nationally; outline the state of food insecurity and food industry in New York State; and develop an action plan for the coming months and year.
This meeting is open to the public. Members of the public will have an opportunity to make a short statement and hand deliver written statements near the end of the meeting. Created by Governor Spitzer earlier this year, the Council on Food Policy is chaired by the State Agriculture Commissioner and consists of 22 members, including seven agency heads and 14 members representing all aspects of the food system. The Council is tasked to establish new food policies for the State that will help ensure the availability of safe, fresh, nutritious and affordable food for all New Yorkers, especially low income individuals, senior citizens and children.
