Governor Paterson Encourages New York Residents to Love New York By Making It Their Summer Destination Spot
"I Love NY" Campaign Provides Easy Way to Plan for New York Vacation
Residents Can Reduce the Cost of Summer Travel and Support the New York Economy
Governor David A. Paterson today encouraged New York residents to stay in-state when traveling this summer, and take advantage of special travel packages offered through the "I Love NY" campaign. In addition to the ease with which New York residents can access all that the State has to offer, Governor Paterson cited public concern about the escalating costs of gasoline among the primary reasons to "Love New York" this summer.
"New York State is spectacular in its beauty and diversity, and there is nothing that vacationers will find elsewhere that they can’t find here. We have beaches and mountains, outdoor tranquility and vibrant cities. New York State is a world-class destination spot," said Governor Paterson. "Perhaps most importantly, I want our residents to enjoy affordable vacations, and a good way to do that is to stay local and take advantage of excellent travel options that are right in our backyard."
Governor Paterson has directed the Department of Environmental Conservation, the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the Department of Agriculture and Markets to work closely with the "I Love NY" campaign to encourage and make it easier for people to build their vacations around the abundance of natural beauty and resources in New York State.
Residents are encouraged to visit the "I Love NY" website, where they can find special travel packages and a page with links to information on wine trails, harvest festivals, public transportation connections, specials at State Parks, and information on wilderness trails and camping experiences.
The website also offers vacations packages, for easy one-stop planning. Some examples of packages and information found on the website include:

From Niagara Falls to the Adirondack Mountains to Montauk at the tip of Long Island, New York State features unique destinations, stunning scenery and exciting adventures, all within a short distance. The opportunities for a great weekend getaway or an extended vacation are vast and abundant. The ‘I LOVE NY’ website serves as a great resource for families looking to stretch the dollar and reduce trips to the gas pumps while making memories in a one-of-a-kind location."
Empire State Development Downstate President Avi Schick said: "We understand how hard it is for Americans to make vacation plans this summer. With high gas prices and a weakened economy, planning a summer getaway is incredibly challenging. But New York has a variety of scenic summer getaways that are both affordable and accessible. With the recent revitalization of the ‘I LOVE NY’ brand we introduced progressive brand partnerships with industry partners such as JetBlue, Virgin Atlantic, Travelocity and Orbitz. We encourage visitors to take advantage of our deals and spend their summer experiencing all that this great State has to offer. "
Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Pete Grannis said: "New York offers unparalleled places to enjoy nature’s wonders. From the ‘forever wild’ protected areas of the Catskill and Adirondack parks to the beaches and bays of Long Island, from the Great Lakes to the Finger Lakes to Lake Champlain, New York has world-class places to camp, hike, bike, paddle, fish and simply connect to nature. And it’s all right outside our front doors."
New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Carol Ash said: "With 90 percent of our campgrounds booked for the Fourth of July holiday, many people are discovering New York State’s park system offers unique and exciting vacation destinations at affordable prices right in their own backyards. With campgrounds, beaches, golf courses, historic mansions and forts, New York state parks have something for everyone."
New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker said: "Whether you are sipping wine at an award-winning winery, checking out the blue ribbon exhibits at the State Fair or a county fair or getting lost in corn maze or berry patch – you don’t have to travel far from home to find it here in New York. In fact, to make your family vacation all that much closer, affordable and enjoyable this summer, many of New York’s farms and wineries have opened their doors to the public. Check out the numerous agricultural destinations waiting for you and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the fun you’ll have here at home in New York State."
