Media Advisory - Seedway Settlement Details & Events to be Revealed
Conference Call Scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.
New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker will reveal the details and timeline of events in relation to the seed violation case involving Seedway that was announced by the New York State Attorney General earlier this week. Initiated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, this case represents one of the largest agricultural settlements in the history of New York State.
Participants of the conference call will be on listen-only mode. Questions will be taken from credentialed media only in the order in which they are received. After a lengthy investigation by the Department in conjunction with the State Attorney Generalís office, Seedway, LLC of Hall, New York was found to falsely label and improperly certify bags of seed, violations of state seed statutes. The company is now required to pay $346,000 in penalties, costs and restitution, as well as implement an audited quality assurance program.
