NYS Council on Food Policy to Meet June 28 in Harlem
The Governorís New York State Council on Food Policy will hold its annual summer meeting on Monday, June 28, 2010 at the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building, 163 W. 125th Street in Harlem, New York.
††††††††††† The June 28th meeting, which will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., is open to the public for observation.† A public comment period will be held from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m.† Those wishing to present comments must RSVP no later than June 25, 2010 by calling the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets at 518-485-7728 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.† Comments must be limited to 5 minutes and a hard copy of public comments is required to be submitted to the Council at the time of presentation.
The New York State Council on Food Policy is tasked to establish new food policies for the State that will help ensure the availability of safe, fresh, nutritious and affordable food for all New Yorkers, and expanding agricultural food production. The Councilís recommended State food policies focus on four key issues areas: maximizing participation in food and nutrition assistance programs; strengthening the connection between local food products and consumers; supporting efficient and profitable agricultural food production and food retail infrastructure; and increasing consumer awareness and knowledge about healthy eating; and improving consumer access to safe and nutritious foods.
