First Major Food Retailer in State to Showcase
“New York Maple – Taste The Tradition”
Wednesday, June 30 at Wegmans on Calkins Road in Henrietta
New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker will join representatives of Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. in Henrietta on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 to recognize the first major food retailer in the State to carry New York maple syrup, utilizing the industry’s new “New York Maple – Taste the Tradition” logo. Wegmans has committed to offer the New York product in all 75 of their stores, both in and out of the State.
“New York Maple –Taste the Tradition” is a new logo and tag line for New York maple products that was designed to help and encourage the State’s maple producers work collectively under a single brand name in order to appeal to larger retail and wholesale markets, such as Wegmans. New York maple syrup has traditionally been offered only at the farm level or in small specialty shops.
New York is the second leading maple producing state in the nation with over 1,500 maple producers making 312,000 gallons of maple syrup this past spring.
All media are welcome and encouraged to attend.
