Agriculture Commissioner Commends USDA Action To Pay For Dumped Milk

“U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack’s decision to take action that will pay dairy farmers for milk they were forced to dump or which spoiled due to Hurricane Irene is welcomed news for New York Farmers,” said New York Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine. “The damage from the storm made it impossible for some farmers to have their milk picked up. In other cases power outages caused the milk to spoil. The Secretary’s decision to include this milk as part of the Federal milk marketing order pool for August and September means these farmers will not lose their income on this milk. I commend the Secretary’s action.”
