NYS Council on Food Policy to Meet Nov. 9 in Oriskany
The Governorís New York State Council on Food Policy will hold its annual fall meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Cornell Cooperative Extension Office, 121 Second Street Oriskany, New York.
The Council will discuss past and current state food policy recommendations for the Governorís consideration. The meeting is open to the public for observation. A public comment period will be held from 11:40 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Those wishing to present comments must RSVP no later than November 7, 2011 by calling the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets at 518-485-7728 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Comments must be limited to five minutes and a hard copy of public comments is required to be submitted to the Council at the time of presentation.
The Council on Food Policy is tasked to establish new food policies for New York State that will help ensure the availability of safe, fresh, nutritious and affordable food for all New Yorkers, and expanding agricultural food production. The Councilís recommended food policies focus on key issues areas: maximizing participation in food and nutrition assistance programs; strengthening the connection between local food products and consumers; supporting efficient and profitable agricultural food production and food retail infrastructure; and increasing consumer awareness and knowledge about healthy eating; and improving consumer access to safe and nutritious foods.
