New York State Council on Food Policy to Meet July 18 in Albany
The Governor’s New York State Council on Food Policy will hold its annual summer meeting on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the University of Albany Alumni House at 1400 Washington Avenue in Albany.
The July 18th meeting, which will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., is open to the public for observation. A public comment period will be held from 11:40 a.m. to 12:00 pm. Those wishing to attend and present comments must RSVP no later than July 16, 2012 by calling the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets at 518-457-1721 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Public comments must be limited to 5 minutes and a hard copy of comments is required to be submitted to the Council at the time of presentation.
The New York State Council on Food Policy is tasked to establish new food policies for the State that will help ensure the availability of safe, fresh, nutritious and affordable food for all New Yorkers, and expanding agricultural food production. The Council’s recommended State food policies focus on four key issues areas: maximizing participation in, and support for, food and nutrition assistance programs; strengthening the connection between local food products and consumers; supporting safe, efficient and profitable agricultural food production and food retail infrastructure; and fostering a culture of healthy and local eating for all New York State residents.
