Horses, Goats and a “Bus Roadeo” at the Fairgrounds This Weekend

The Skills of Horses and Riders, Bus Drivers to be Tested

State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine today announced the following events running from Friday, June 7 – Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the New York State Fairgrounds:

It takes a lot of skill to drive buses that are 40 feet long through the streets of Central New York.  Saturday, June 8, those bus drivers will compete to decide who among them is the most skillful of all.  Centro, the regional public bus service, holds its annual “Bus Roadeo” in the Belle Isle Parking Lot at the Fairgrounds.  They’ll steer their buses through a course designed to mimic some of the situations they encounter in real life.  The Roadeo begins at noon. Admission is free.

Two horse shows will put the skills of horses and riders on display.  The Empire State Quarter Horse Association and Youth Association’s “Spring Into Summer” show will feature the speedy Quarter Horses and their riders in several disciplines, including hunter, hunters under saddle, western, and halter.  The show begins at 7 a.m. Friday – Sunday in the Toyota Coliseum.  Admission is free.

Saturday and Sunday at the 4-H Rings and Stables, the Bridle Path Manor English Horse Show takes place starting at 8 a.m.  Horses and riders will speed around a flat track and over fences. Admission is free.

The Central New York Dairy Goat Society holds its annual doe show on Saturday in the Swine, Goat, and Llama Barn beginning at 9 a.m.  The event kicks off Dairy Goat Awareness Week.  Admission is free.

The New York State Fair runs from August 22 – September 2, 2013.  The Fair’s theme is “Sharing the Bounty and Pride of New York.”

In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.

The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s website.  Find The Great New York State Fair on Facebook or follow NYS Fair on Twitter. Also, New Yorkers are invited to send their ideas on the Great New York State Fair at statefairideas@agriculture.ny.gov.
