Chicken & Waffles with a Twist Is This Year’s New Fair Food

Crispy Fried Chicken Between Halves of a Donut is Mouthwatering Good

If you like chicken and you like doughnuts, you’re going to love this year’s new State Fair featured food.  It’s the Southern Fried Chicken Donut, and it will make its Fair debut on opening day at Big Kahuna’s restaurant.

Jeff Brick of Big Kahuna’s explains what’s in it:  “It’s a juicy, crispy chicken breast fillet, accented with chipotle mayonnaise and tangy pickles.  It’s all nestled between halves of a warm, sweet glazed doughnut. We’ve taste-tested it and we like it even better than our Big Kahuna Donut Burger.

“I think of it as a twist on the southern snack, Chicken & Waffles.”

The Donut Burger and Donut Bacon Dog will also be back on the menu at Big Kahuna’s.

Fans of deep-fried snacks will find new tastes around every corner at the Fair.  One stand offers deep friend candy bars, as well as deep fried alligator nuggets and other offbeat food.  You can get a fried green tomato at another stand, but why stop there when you can get their deep fried veggie tray?  Also around the Fairgrounds, you can find deep fried Oreos, corn dogs, ravioli, bloomin’ onions, plantains, seafood, bologna sandwich, and the list goes on and on.  Many stands offer fried dough.  One stand offers deep fried bubble gum.

The New York State Fair runs from August 22 – September 2, 2013.  The Fair’s theme is “Sharing the Bounty and Pride of New York.”

In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.

The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s website.  Find The Great New York State Fair on Facebook or follow NYS Fair on Twitter.
