"Taste NY" Experience at the Great New York State Fair Up and Running

Tastings, Trail and Daily Prizes Kicked Off on Opening Day, August 22

State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine today announced details on the "Taste NY" experience at the Great New York State Fair, which is taking place in Syracuse from August 22 through September 2.

"This is going to be a 'Taste NY' Experience at the Great New York State Fair from start to finish," said Commissioner Aubertine. "We are tasting an array of home grown New York State products, walking the 'Taste NY' Trail and our agricultural partners are interacting with New Yorkers as they learn more about New York goods made from key farm products."

"TasteNY" Tent and Trail:

The "Taste NY" Tent features over 100 New York State vendors selling and sampling products throughout the 12 days, including Adirondack Beef Company, Harvest Spirits, Cortland Brewery, Keegan Ales, Brown's Brewing Company and Fox Run Vineyards.

After getting their fill of samples, New Yorkers are invited to take the "Taste NY" Trail, which encompasses seven stops across the Fairgrounds. The Trail consists of a series of vendors that will showcase and sell the very best in New York-made products. At every stop, New Yorkers can get their "Taste NY" Trail Card stamped to be eligible for daily prizes.

The seven stops are:

- FreshConnect Farmers' Market

- "Taste NY" tent

- "Taste NY" Marketplace

- Dairy Products Building (stamps can be obtained at the American Dairy Association, New York State Cheese Manufacturers Association, New York Beef Industry Council, and Perry's Ice Cream).

- International Building - New York State Brew Pub and Distillery

- "Taste NY" Wine Village (stamps can be obtained at Ashley Lynn Winery, Fox Run Vineyards, Glenora Wine Cellars, King Ferry Winery, Knapp Winery, Martin's Honey Farm and Meadery Winery, Merritt Estate Winery, Swedish Hill Vineyard and Thousand Islands Winery)

- Horticulture Building (stamps can be obtained at Empire State Honey Producers Association, F.X. Matt Brewing Company, New York Apple Association, New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, and New York State Maple Producers Association).

Daily prizes may include gift certificates from the New York Wine and Culinary Center, the Culinary Institute of America, the New York State Maple Association and the "Taste NY" Marketplace, tickets to the upcoming "Taste NY" Harvest Fest and tickets to the Farmers' Museum located in Cooperstown. A Grand Prize will be announced at a later date.

Fairgoers can begin the trail at any of the seven stops located throughout the Fairgrounds.  Once they complete all seven, they can return their trail cards to the "Taste NY" tent.  A drawing is held at the end of the night.  Winners do not have to be present, but they do have to be 21 years or older to be eligible.

FreshConnect Farmers' Market

The FreshConnect Farmers Market is located to the right of the main entrance at the Great New York State Fair. The Market features the finest in New York State produce and showcases the growing number of community farmers markets located throughout the State. This year, the market will conduct daily cooking demonstrations from the Department of Agriculture and Markets' FreshConnect Ag Pod. The demonstrations will be conducted by food and culinary representatives from all over the State and will feature dishes prepared exclusively with fresh New York State vegetables with an emphasis on the flavor, availability, and ease of use of the produce. Recipes will be provided for all of the dishes prepared.

The FreshConnect Market would not be the same without the presence of the Biz Kids from Rochester. For the first time, the Biz Kids will be assisting with the new exciting Market Mania Game designed to increase players’ knowledge of local food and farming. The Game has three levels: seeds, sprouts, and plants to ensure that people of all ages can test their current knowledge and expand their familiarity with agricultural topics. Look for the Biz Kids at the Market with their green Fresh Connect shirts and hats. The Fresh Connect Farmers Market is administered by the Farmers Market Federation of New York in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture and Markets.

“TasteNY Market”

The newly-renovated "Taste NY" Marketplace, located to the right of the Main Gate of the Great New York State Fair, is occupied by Nelson Farms gives fairgoers the opportunity to purchase a wide variety of New York products throughout the 12-day "Taste NY" Experience at the Fair. The Marketplace also houses a "Taste NY" kiosk where New Yorkers are able to check out the new "Taste NY" website.
