State Department of Agriculture and Markets Announces Search for New York State Fair Director

New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets today announced that State Fair Director Thomas J. Ryan is stepping down, and a search committee will be named to seek a permanent Director.  Former Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll, who currently heads the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation, will lead the search effort.

“I was honored to serve Governor Cuomo’s Administration as Fair Director this year, and I thank him and all the people who made this year’s event the significant success that it was,” Ryan said. “The Fair staff worked very hard and delivered the finest in family-oriented fun and education again this year, and I congratulate them on their accomplishment.”

The Great New York State Fair is held annually at the 375-acre Fairgrounds in Syracuse, and attracted more than 851,000 people this year. It showcases the best in New York agriculture and provides a diverse array of exhibitions, entertainment, and varied contests at the end of each summer.  The Fairgrounds also hosts more than 100 major other shows and events year-round that attract nearly an additional million visitors.
