State Announces Search Committee for the Next Director of the Great New York State Fair
State Environmental Facilities Corporation President and CEO Matthew J. Driscoll and State Department of Agriculture and Markets Acting Commissioner James B. Bays today announced a number of steps being taken in the national search for a new Director of the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse. A job description is now available on the EFC, Ag and Markets, and State Fair websites; an email address for potential applicants has been created; and a search committee has been established.
“As a resident of Central New York, I know how important the Fair is to the region and its residents and I thank Governor Cuomo for placing his trust in me and appointing me to lead the search for a new State Fair Director,” said Mr. Driscoll. “I look forward to consulting with the newly-established search committee, the State Fair Advisory Board, and stakeholders in the Syracuse area and beyond who are deeply committed to making the New York State Fair a continued success.”
“The Great New York State Fair is a hugely important Division within the Department of Agriculture and Markets,” said Acting Commissioner Bays. “We want the next Director to help maximize the potential of this 375 acre enterprise by increasing sponsorships, going out and engaging the community, and transforming the Fair into one that is known beyond our state’s borders.”
Applicants may submit their resumes by emailing NYSFDIRSEARCH@agriculture.ny.gov. The deadline to apply is November 30, 2013.
The members of the State Fair Director Search Committee are:
- Committee Chair Matthew J. Driscoll
- Deputy Secretary for Food and Agriculture Patrick Hooker
- Acting Agriculture and Markets Commissioner James B. Bays
- Henry M. Greenberg, Chair of the State Fair Advisory Board
- New York Farm Bureau President Dean Norton
- Dwayne Hill, President of the NYS Maple Producers Association
- Jim Trezise, President of the New York Wine and Grape Foundation
Mr. Driscoll and the Search Committee will be seeking applications from across the state and nation to find the most qualified person to lead the New York State Fair in the years ahead.
“The intent is to identify a candidate who understands the importance of connectivity between New York’s vast agricultural markets and the broad spectrum of businesses that represent New York’s economy. All of this is symbolized not only during the two weeks of the Fair, but also in the year round expositions, conventions, entertainment and shows that make the New York State Fair one of the premier attractions in Upstate New York,” said Mr. Driscoll.
The Great New York State Fair is held annually in Syracuse and attracted more than 851,000 people this year.
