Think Summer at the CNY Boat Show at the Fairgrounds This Week

Hundreds of Boats for Sale, Along With Seminars, Demonstrations

Acting State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball today announced the following events running from Wednesday, February 12 to Sunday, February 16 at the New York State Fairgrounds:

Winter won’t seem so cold at the CNY Boat Show, which opens Wednesday, February 12 at the Fairgrounds.  The show covers 250,000 square feet in three buildings the Center of Progress, the Horticulture Building, and the Exhibit Center.  More than 500 new boats and personal watercraft will be on display and for sale.

Boaters can also learn valuable safety lessons at the show.  The US Power Squadron will use remote-controlled mini-boats to demonstrate the safety uses of navigational buoys.  New York Sea Grant Launch Stewards will show how voluntary boat inspections can help prevent the spread of invasive species.  Sea Grant will also display the 2014 Discover Clean and Safe Boat, which displays the latest gear and ideas for safe, legal boating.

In addition, Sea Grant, along with the Boating Industry Association of Upstate NY, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Oswego County Office of Emergency Management will offer a special cold water survival training course to qualified New York State emergency responders.  Personnel in uniform or who are visibly identifiable as first responders can enter the Boat Show for free to attend the hour-long course.  Continuing Medical Education credit certificates will be provided at the end of the course.  It will be offered at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the Horticulture Building.

On Friday, the show will help people celebrate Valentine’s Day with a wine tasting event from 4 8 p.m.  Select Finger Lakes wineries will provide samples of their products and offer them for sale.  Wines will be available in each building.

The show runs from 1 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. 9 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Sunday.  Admission is $10 per person, with children 13 and under admitted free.

For more information, visit the show’s website at http://www.cnyboatshow.com.

Also at the Fairgrounds, the Empire Theater hosts the second of three weekends of the Syracuse Shakespeare Festival’s production of “King Lear.”  Gerard Moses stars as the ill-fated king, who falls insane after giving his property to two of his three daughters, with tragic consequences for everyone.  Dan Stevens directs this production of the Bard of Avon’s famous 17th century play.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.  Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for students and for seniors age 62 and older, and $7 for Syracuse University students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and for groups of 12 people or more.  Call 476-1835 for more information or purchase tickets online at http://syrsf.ticketleap.com/.
