Spring Carousel Shows Dairy Industry’s Best at the New York State Fairgrounds This Weekend
Also Taking Place: Country Folk Art Show, Health Fair, Gun Show
Acting State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball today announced the following events running from Friday, April 11 to Monday, April 14 at the New York State Fairgrounds:
Members of the dairy industry from all over the Northeast will meet at the Fairgrounds for the New York Spring Dairy Carousel. The event, operated by the New York Holstein Association, is said to be the largest spring show in North America. In past years, exhibitors from as many as 15 states and Canada were on hand. As many as 1,000 animals in all seven dairy breeds are expected.
The event features judging and sales of various breeds of dairy cows, as well as activities for juniors. Admission to the event is free. It takes place Friday through Monday in the Toyota Coliseum and in the Exhibit Center. More information is available at http://www.nyholsteins.com/.
Also this weekend, the Country Folk Art Craft Show returns to the Horticulture Building. The show features scores of unique decorating ideas in many styles and varieties. Organizers say that among the more popular items found at the show are handcrafted furniture, home and garden décor, jewelry, textiles, wearable art, and paintings. The show runs Friday from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.. Admission is $6 but children age 12 and under are admitted free. Syracuse’s Natur-Tyme health food store holds its annual Health Fair on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Art & Home Center. Throughout the day, speakers, workshops, and cooking demonstrations will provide detailed information on living a healthier life. Many vendors will be on hand, and some will provide screenings. The New York State Arms Collectors Association holds the Syracuse Gun Show in the Center of Progress Building Saturday from 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. As many as 1,000 tables will display and offer for sale modern and historical weapons. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and children under 12 are admitted free with an adult.
The New York State Fair, operated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August 21 – September 1, 2014. The Fair’s mission, reflected in its 2014 theme, “Summer’s Best in Show,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing top-quality entertainment.
In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.
