It’s Time to Get Your Advance Sale Tickets to the Great New York State Fair

Fair Also Announces Special “Dollar Day” Event for Final Day

[A localized list of advance sale ticket locations follows this release.]

The Great New York State Fair opens in exactly seven weeks, and today, money-saving advance sale admission tickets, Midway ride vouchers, and Best Bets Bargain Books went on sale at scores of outlets across New York State, State Fair Acting Director Troy Waffner announced today.
At the same time, the Fair announced a special “Dollar Day” event for the Fair’s final day that will save people even more money.

Advance Sales Begin and Box Office Opens Daily

Fair season hits full stride this week with the start of advance sales of admission tickets on Thursday, July 3.  The $6 tickets provide a 40% savings over the $10 price at the gate.  Tickets are available at hundreds of locations across the state.  The list includes Wegmans, Price Chopper, and Tops locations and, joining them this year are Kinney Drugs locations.  Many other stores, banks, and other outlets sell tickets as well.  Visit to find a location near you.

Last year, the Fair sold a record number of advance sale tickets.

Also available at most Wegmans, Price Chopper, and Tops locations and a few other outlets is the Fair’s Best Bets Bargain Book and ride-all-day vouchers for Wade Shows Midway rides.  The Best Bets Bargain Book provides $3,500 in savings via more than 100 coupons for Fair vendors, activities, and more.  Books are available for $4, a $1 savings over the cost at the gate.  Ride-all-day vouchers for the Midway are $20, a savings of $5 over the weekday price and $10 over the weekend price.

Tickets, ride vouchers, and the coupon book will all be available at the Fair’s box office, which opens daily for the Fair season on Monday, July 7.  Two products for people who come to the Fair many times each year are only available at the box office.  The Frequent Fairgoer Admission Book provides coupons for one person to enter up to six days.  The book is $30, which saves $30 over the full price at the gate. Also available will be a voucher for the Wade Shows Midway Mega Pass, which allows a person to ride all day, every day of the Fair for $70.  The box office will be open from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. weekdays.  In addition, advance sale tickets will be available later this month via the State Fair’s website, located at

Dollar Day Says ‘Thank You’ to Fans

There’s a special reason to come to the Fair on Labor Day, Monday, September 1 – Dollar Day.  The Fair’s new Dollar Day promotion provides a way for families on budgets to enjoy the Fair while giving others a reason to come back one more time.  Admission to the Fair will be $1 per person all day.  All of the rides in the Wade Shows Midway will be $1 per ride.  The Fair is reaching out to vendors to see if they would like to offer $1 specials as well.  Any additional specials will be compiled and posted on the Fair’s website.

Dollar Day admission is not available by advance sale.  The $1 admission for Labor Day can only be bought at the State Fair Box Office on that day.  Other advance sale tickets will be honored, but no refunds for the difference in price can be given.

“This was an idea brought to us by Wade Shows and we loved it the moment we heard it.  We’ve worked so hard to make so many changes this year that we felt we’d like to give people a reason to come one more time to enjoy everything we’ve done.  We’re planning a great day for our finale,” said Waffner.

“We’ve done Dollar Day promotions on our midways in other fairs and it has been successful.  But here, the Fair embraced the idea and made it even larger.  This is a great idea, born out of a great partnership, and I know the Dollar Day will be a huge success,” said Frank Zaitshik, owner of Wade Shows.

Dollar Day is part of what the Fair is calling “The Summer Send-Off” --  a celebration of the end of the Fair which is capped by the final daily parade at 3:00 p.m., the free concert by the Doobie Brothers at Chevy Court at 6:00 p.m., and the return of fireworks to the Fairgrounds, sponsored by National Grid, at dusk.

The Summer Send-Off celebrates a Fair that has more than two dozen new events, activities, and attractions, an unprecedented amount of growth and change.  In addition, several popular attractions have been improved or expanded in response to the demand of Fairgoers.  The Fair has also kept its promise to increase its promotion of great New York State food and beverages as well as the entire agricultural industry.

The New York State Fair, operated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August 21 – September 1, 2014.  The Fair’s mission, reflected in its 2014 theme, “Summer’s Best in Show,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing top-quality entertainment.  This year’s tagline – “New Attractions, Old Favorites, Timeless Fun” – highlights the more than two dozen new events and attractions and the expansion or enhancement of several Fairgoer favorites.

In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.

The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s website.  Find The Great New York State Fair on Facebook, follow @NYSFair on Twitter, and enjoy photos from the Fair at Also, New Yorkers are invited to send their ideas for the Great New York State Fair at
