State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball Wishes the Three Competing New York Thoroughbreds Well on the Eve of the Kentucky Derby

“New York’s Thoroughbred industry is undergoing a renaissance, benefiting New York agriculture through new horse farms, jobs and interest in the horse industry.  At tomorrow’s Kentucky Derby, three Thoroughbreds born and raised in New York State—International Star, Tencendur and Upstart—will compete in this first leg of the Triple Crown.  This is the first time ever that three New York Thoroughbreds have competed in the Kentucky Derby at the same time - a testament to the growing strength of the Thoroughbred industry here in this state.  I wish all three of these New York Thoroughbreds and their connections the best of luck at the Kentucky Derby and know that they will make New Yorkers proud.”
