Music Icons Culture Club to Perform at the Great New York State Fair’s Chevy Court
Culture Club, the band behind iconic 80s hits such as “Karma Chameleon,” comes to Chevy Court Friday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. for its first appearance ever at the Great New York State Fair, Acting Director Troy Waffner announced today. All shows at Chevy Court are free with admission to the Fair.
Culture Club, fronted by lead singer Boy George, dominated music in the early 1980s as the band’s infusion of pop and soul into new wave rock struck a chord with music lovers. What followed were hits such as “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me,” “Time (Clock of the Heart),” and “I’ll Tumble For Ya” that made them, according to AllMusic.com, “the most popular pop/rock group in America.”
The band’s first album of original music in 17 years, called “Tribes,” is due out later this year. The entire original band is together for this album and tour.
“What an exciting show this will be. Their music is still played on the radio every day and has space on many folks’ music players. This is a rare chance to see them live in Upstate New York as we continue to invest in top quality national entertainment to provide the strongest and most diverse lineup in our history,” said Waffner.
Other performances previously announced for Chevy Court include:
- Bruce Hornsby and The Noisemakers, Aug. 28 at 8 p.m.
- Air Supply, Aug. 28 at 2 p.m.
- Herman’s Hermits return for a Senior Day performance, Aug. 29 at 2 p.m.
- Survivor, Aug. 30 at 2 p.m.
- The Commodores, Aug. 30 at 8 p.m.
- Macy Gray, Aug. 31 at 2 p.m.
- Chicago, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.
Chevy Court’s 23 free shows are part of the Fair’s commitment to providing the best and most diverse lineup of music available. Each year, the Fair and its vendors provide approximately 500 free musical performances. Concerts at Chevy Court are sponsored by Chevrolet.
