The Great New York State Fair Launches ’44 for the Fair’ Contest After Syracuse’s Run Busts Brackets for Basketball Fans

The Great New York State Fair is joining in the excitement of Syracuse University’s twin appearances in the NCAA basketball championships with a contest aimed squarely at fans of the Orange. It’s part of the “Busted Bracket Bargains” promotion—launched by Visit Syracuse, the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau — that hopes to pay fans back after SU’s successes busted more than 99 percent of all bracket predictions.

Called “44 For The Fair”, the contest is offering 12-day passes to the 2016 Fair to the 44 basketball fans who come closest to guessing the total number of points scored in all six of the men’s and women’s games from Saturday’s men’s semifinals to Tuesday’s women’s championship. “44” refers to the two Final Four appearances and is also Syracuse University’s most famous jersey number.

“Our local sports teams, like the Fair, bring us together and provide great excitement. We’re rooting for a pair of national championships and hope this contest adds a little more fun to these great games,” said Troy Waffner, Acting Fair Director.

To enter, people need to upload a photo of themselves holding a sign with their total score guess clearly visible. Of course, wearing orange garb is encouraged. The photo must be uploaded to a special contest site on the State Fair’s Facebook page, at bit.ly/44ForTheFair. Those who do not have Facebook can e-mail a picture to newyorkstatefair@agriculture.ny.gov or they can post it on Twitter using the hashtag #44ForTheFair and it will be entered into the contest by the Fair’s staff.

All entries must be uploaded or e-mailed no later than 5:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2. The 44 entries with scores closest to the total score of all six games – the four semifinal games and two championship games – will win 12-day passes to this year’s Fair. Ties will be settled by random drawings.

Dozens of businesses and attractions throughout the region are creatively celebrating the Orange’s successful basketball season by offering up discounts, promotions, and even inventing new products and meals. All of the deals are listed here: www.bustedbracketbargains.com.

The New York State Fair, operated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August 25 to September 5, 2016.  The Fair’s mission, reflected in its theme, “Summer’s Best in Show,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing top-quality entertainment.

In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.

The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s website.  Find The Great New York State Fair on Facebook, follow @NYSFair on Twitter, and enjoy photos from the Fair at Flickr.com/photos/nysfair. Also, New Yorkers are invited to send their ideas for the Great New York State Fair at statefairideas@agriculture.ny.gov.
