Media Advisory: New York State Celebrates Grand Opening of Lock E-13 Living History Rest Area

New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Thruway Authority and Canal Corporation celebrate the grand opening of the Lock E-13 Living History Rest Area. An open house and ribbon-cutting will be held to commemorate the grand opening, one year after the project was first announced. Reenactors will be on hand to highlight the rich history of the Mohawk Valley and local food and beverage producers will offer samples of their delicious products.

The rest area was announced in 2015 following Governor Cuomo’s “Capital for a Day” events. It showcases the historical significance of the Erie Canal and the New York State Thruway, the two major transportation arteries that helped establish the Empire State as we know it today. The rest area also includes a Taste NY market featuring products from more than three dozen New York producers and highlighting the importance of agriculture to the community and the state.
