New York State Announces Taste NY Expands to Ten State Parks

Supports Governor’s State of the State Initiative to Double Park Visitors’ Exposure to New York Products
State Parks and Taste NY Drive Tourism and Boost Regional Economies
Visitors Can Easily Find Taste NY Locations on the NYS Parks Visitors Guide, on the I LOVE NEW YORK app and on the Taste NY website

The State Department of Agriculture and Markets and the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) today announced that six additional state parks have added Taste NY concessions, bringing high-quality New York food and beverage products to park visitors. Guests can now find New York made food and drinks at a total of 10 properties, including Olana State Historic Site, Saratoga Spa, Bear Mountain, Sunken Meadow, Bethpage, Robert Moses, Jones Beach, Letchworth, Watkins Glen and Niagara Falls State Parks. Together, these parks draw nearly 30 million visitors annually. Today’s announcement also supports Governor Cuomo’s State of the State initiative to double park visitors’ exposure to New York products, helping to drive tourism and strengthen local economies across the state.

State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball said, “We’re excited to expand Taste NY to additional locations this summer and continue building on the great momentum we have been able to accomplish for our producers.  We look forward to making it easier for visitors to find the very best New York products in the parks and across the State through the parks guides, websites and I Love NY app.”

State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey said, “Taste NY farm-based foods offer yet another exciting experience visitors can only enjoy in New York State and we are thrilled to expand the Taste NY selection and offerings within the state park system. Fresh and healthy food options complement a healthy and active lifestyle. Through this expansion and the recreational opportunities and adventure already awaiting, state parks continues to provide the right outdoor getaway for all ages.”

To celebrate the addition of the new concessions and to spotlight the producers behind the products being sold in the park, Commissioner Ball today visited Olana State Historic Site for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and product tasting.  Local producers offered free samples of their products, including gourmet nuts, cheeses, chocolates and baked goods to dozens of park guests.  A current list of products offered at Olana State Historic Site is available here.

Last summer, Taste NY launched its offerings at Jones Beach State Park, Letchworth, Niagara Falls, and Watkins Glen State Parks.  Total sales at Taste NY concessions at these parks were nearly $3 million.

To further promote all ten state parks featuring Taste NY, New York State Parks has highlighted the Taste NY locations in its visitors’ guide. More than 150,000 copies are being distributed to parks, chambers of commerce and other tourism destinations across the State.  An interactive map with a listing of all of the Taste NY Parks locations can be found on the Taste NY website and on the I LOVE NEW YORK app.  Visitors can download the I Love NY app from the Apple Store.

Taste NY is an initiative launched by Governor Cuomo in 2013 to promote New York’s food and beverage industries. It is overseen by the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets and has created opportunities for local producers to showcase their goods at a variety of venues throughout the State and at large public events, such as the Great New York State Fair and the Barclays Tournament at Bethpage State Park.

Over the last three years, the Taste NY initiative has seen steady growth and recognition. The program reported sales of $4.5 million in 2015 and nearly tripled those figures to more than $13.1 million in 2016. Today, New York products sold under Taste NY branding are available in more than 60 locations throughout the State as well as the New York State Office of Trade and Tourism in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
