 Farmers' Market Nutrition Program

Farmers' Market Nutrition Program - Authorized Markets and Farmers

Markets             Farmers

Markets and farmers enrolled in the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) offer customers with $4.00 FMNP checks a place to spend their benefit for fresh, local, unprocessed fruits, vegetables and culinary herbs. Below is a list by region, of current farmers' markets, farm stands and mobile markets enrolled in the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program. Each list also indicates whether a market participates in the NYS Wireless EBT Program and can accept SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). The list also indicates if the market has one or more farmers that are enrolled in the WIC Vegetables and Fruits Checks Program.

Interactive information about each market can be found at the New York Open Data Website here.

Note: the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program operates June 1-November 30. Authorized Farmers and Interested Farmers lists are posted in May and removed when the season ends. The lists are updated several times throughout the FMNP season.

Farms that grow and offer for sale fresh fruits and vegetables at farm stand and farmers markets can apply to the FMNP. The Department maintains a list of Farms Authorized in the FMNP and of Farms who are interested in attending additional farmers' markets.

This document is a tool for market operators to help them when recruiting farmers for their market. A market can solicit any farmer on the list.

Here are some Quick Tips for market operators to consider before they make phone calls: hours of the market, day of the week, how many weeks to commit, management structure, vendor fees, requirements for vendors to carry insurance, market promotion actions (e.g. signage, radio ads, newspaper ads, market webpage, etc.), market special events (e.g. music, nutrition education, etc.), parking for the farmer's truck, electricity available, nutrition programming (e.g. FMNP, SNAP, FCC).

Market Lists by Region*

Click on the region name to open a list of markets in that region. Regions are not mutually exclusive and counties can be in more than one region.

Each list also indicates whether a market participates in other nutrition programs. A designation of "EBT" indicates that customers may use their SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits at that location. A designation "VF" indicates the market has one or more farmers that are enrolled in the WIC Vegetables and Fruits Checks Program.

Note: the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program operates June 1-November 30. Authorized FMNP Market lists are posted in May and removed when the season ends. The list is updated several times throughout the FMNP season.
